More Louisiana People Can Soon Get Covid Vaccine
More people in Louisiana will soon be eligible to get the Covid vaccine. Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to announce more details during a news conference at noon today. The new criteria includes adults of all ages who have conditions that put them at greater risk of getting critically ill if they get the virus.

The Advocate reports this list of conditions that qualifies adults for the vaccine:
- moderate to severe asthma
- cerebrovascular disease
- cystic fibrosis
- hypertension or high blood pressure
- immunocompromised state from blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids or use of other immune weakening medicines
- neurologic conditions, such as dementia
- liver disease
- overweight
- pulmonary fibrosis
- thalassemia
- type 1 diabetes mellitus
- cancer
- chronic kidney disease
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- down syndrome
- heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
- immunocompromised state from solid organ transplant
- obesity or severe obesity
- pregnancy
- sickle cell disease
- smoking
- type 2 diabetes mellitus
The original plan for phase 1B, tier 2 also included many government workers and others. We will learn today details of this next phase of the rollout. The Advocate reports people who work in jails, shelters and group homes will be included in this next phase.
