Planning a Weekend Getaway? Here’s Why New Orleans Is Calling This Summer
KNGT | Louisiana — Thinking about a weekend getaway from Southwest Louisiana thats only a few hours away? Let me tell you about a magical place called New Orleans, Louisiana. There are so many things to do in this town, here are just a few according to NewOrleans.com.
I know most of us have been there atleast once, and I know one of you have had a night that you do remember. New Orleans is home to some of the best food in the south. We cant forget the rich history in the area aswell. But every time I go, I end up finding something I didn't know was there.
Fun things to do in New Orleans
Maybe it's a little neighborhood restaurant with a line out the door. Maybe it's a sno-ball stand that's been there forever. Maybe it's a place serving crawfish beignets that makes you wonder why nobody thought of that sooner.
That's what makes New Orleans fun. You can visit ten times and still leave saying, "Man, I gotta come back."

Of course, you've got the places everybody talks about. Café du Monde. The French Quarter. Jackson Square. The streetcars rolling down Canal Street. Those places never get old.
One thing I love doing is asking locals, when you do this, you get that place that might not be on the map, but should be.That's usually where the best meals are anyway.
We are in the middle of summer in Louisiana so you know it's going to be hot. The museums are always worth checking out, especially the National World War II Museum. You can spend hours in there and still not see everything...And they have AC!
Maybe you like to be on the water? The Riverboat is the place for you. Hop on and cruise down the Mississippi River. Sit back, listen to live jazz, enjoy the breeze, and watch the city roll by.
If you're more of the adventurous type, there's even a swamp zipline where you'll fly across the water. But be careful, alligators might be in the water below!
Show up with an open mind, some of the best memories I have ever made all started down a street because something smelt good, or I heard live music. That's New Orleans.
So if you've been looking for a quick summer getaway that's close to home, New Orleans might be just what you're looking for. Bring your appetite, wear some comfortable shoes, and leave a little room in your schedule for surprises. Trust me. That's usually where the best stories begin.
