There is a hidden gem in the town of Slidell. If you love ice cream served with a scoop of nostalgia, you must visit the Old Town Slidell Soda Shop.

The business is modeled to make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Its 1950s theme offers old-fashioned soda jerks, ice cream, malts, and root beer floats among many other items. The walls are lined with many different ice cream scoops, and a jukebox that plays doo-wop tunes can be heard throughout the building.

The parlor was opened in 1988 by Frank Jackson. Thousands of local visitors and tourists have visited the shop for its atmosphere and delicious treats. In May of this year, Jackson decided to put the business up for sale. He’s ready for retirement and said he wants to hand-pick the new owner.

“I’m holding out for someone who has it in their heart to run things right”, Jackson said.

The next time you’re driving through Slidell, be sure to stop by the Old Town Slidell Soda Shop and try their caramel cream cheese scooped into a waffle cone.

They shop is located at 301 Cousin St. in Slidell.
