
Police Jury Offices Closed Jan. 19: What About Trash Pickup?
Calcasieu Parish, LA [KNGT-FM] - This Monday will be a federal holiday. Martin Luther King Day will be celebrated on Monday, January 19, 2026, which means a lot of things will be closed, including local and federal offices. This also means that services will be suspended for some.
One of those agencies includes the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, and other departments will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day. Regular hours for the Police Jury will resume on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

With the offices being closed, what does that meanas far as getting your trash picked up if you live in Calcasieu Parish and have Waste Management as your provider? Laura Heller with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury filled us in on what you should know. She said,
All Calcasieu Parish Police Jury departments will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Garbage and trash pickup will run as regularly scheduled on Monday, Jan. 19, for Waste Management customers. Call Waste Management at 337-436-7229 with any questions concerning the pickup schedule or visit wm.com/alerts for updates.
So it looks like if you live in Calcasieu Parish and have Waste Management as your provider, your trash pickup will not be interrupted. Heads up, if you live in Lake Charles, however, and have the City of Lake Charles pick up your trash. Your service WILL be interrupted. You can see the new Lake Charles trash pickup schedule here.

Laura Heller also said,
The Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers - at 2915 Post Oak Road in Sulphur and 5500-B Swift Plant Road in Lake Charles - will also be closed. They will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026.
