Popular Event Retailer Closing All Its Stores In Louisiana
It seems like every time we turn around we find out about another retail store closing its doors. Already this year, we found out that Red Lobster, Big Lots, Dickey's Bar-B-Que, and others are shutting down.
Now we have just learned that a popular event and party store is shutting its doors after filing for Bankruptcy protection and all 7 locations of its stores in Louisiana will close. One of those stores is right here in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Other locations include Lafayette, Shreveport, Metairie, Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and Harvey, Louisiana.
The franchise we are speaking about is Party City. Party City filed bankruptcy and according to CNN,
It had declared bankruptcy in January 2023. The company had struggled to pay off its $1.7 billion debt load, and it was able to cancel nearly $1 billion in debt by going bankrupt. It also managed to keep most of its more than 800 stores open, although it closed more than 80 locations between the end of 2022 to August 2024, according to its most recent financial documents.
The closure of all its stores will affect thousands of people. CNN went on to say that,
Party City is the largest party supply store in the United States. The company had approximately 6,400 full-time and 10,100 part-time workers as of 2021.
When reached for comment, the company did not respond. So with that being said, it is unknown right now when the brick-and-mortar stores will be closing and locking up their doors for good. We will keep you updated as soon as we find out further information.
