Public Meeting Scheduled for I-10 Bridge Project in Lake Charles

Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - Residents will have an opportunity this week to learn more about the future of one of Southwest Louisiana's largest transportation projects during a public meeting focused on the new Calcasieu River Bridge.

State officials will host the informational session on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, giving community members a chance to review the latest plans and speak with project representatives.

The meeting will feature updated displays covering construction timelines, current project progress, traffic management plans during the building phase, and revised traffic noise studies. Attendees will also be able to view preliminary designs for the planned roundabouts along Lakeshore Drive.

The replacement bridge is designed to significantly improve travel through the Interstate 10 corridor in Lake Charles. Plans call for six main traffic lanes, along with two auxiliary lanes intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The design also includes upgraded lighting, a lower bridge profile, and a new overpass at Sampson Street that will eliminate delays caused by passing trains.

The estimated cost of the bridge project is approximately $2.3 billion. Funding will come from a combination of state and federal dollars, with the remaining balance financed through electronic toll collections.

Drivers will pay tolls using the GeauxPass system, which is expected to remain in place for up to 50 years to help cover construction, operations, and long-term maintenance costs.
