Recruits welcome.
The Lake Charles roller derby team The Lafitte's Ladies are looking for new ladies who are hell on wheels. The team has an open invitation to women and girls who think they have what it takes to be a "roller girl".
Alicia Cretini, co-owner of Lafitte's Ladies and team member, said those interested should "just show up" at the team's Tuesday and Thursday night practice at The Grindhouse at 932 Enterprise Blvd. in Lake Charles near the Lake Charles City Police station.
She said the most important thing is that potential team members "need to want to be a Lafitte Lady".
"The first month is free and everyone is welcome to all practices," Cretini said.
"Usually we even lend gear to girls without. Because we have a building, we can get gear at cost. So we try to let them borrow and encourage them to buy good gear, instead of crappy gear. Crappy gear equals inuries."
The team is part of the Gulf Coast Rollergirls Leauge and has competed with regional teams.
The Lafitte Ladies will be getting together next on Tuesday for practice, but due to a graduation ceremony there will be no practice on next Thursday (May 17,2012).
