What's Would You Consider A "Tourist Trap"

Many Texans and people from other states travel by car across or across the Lone Star State. Tourists may want to make stops along the route to take in some of the sites and locations throughout this enormous state of ours.

But which locations are actually worth visiting, and which ones aren't? What constitutes a "tourist trap" is a matter of opinion. My interpretation is "a place that a lot people HYPE up but its really not worth the time or trouble" .

Indeed, I did say so! "We've got to stop at the Buc-ee's" so we can fill up the tank with gas and spend $1000 BUCKS on BEAVER things we don't need. Alright, I'm kidding. The Big Texan in Amarillo was named the "worst" tourist trap in the Lone Star State by Insider, who evaluated the "worst tourist trap" in each state.

The Big Texan, which is well-known worldwide for its renowned 72-oz steak challenge, also features a hotel, gift store, and ranch, but that didn't stop the Insider staff from calling it "one big Texas cliche." But, I believe that's the main idea, men.

There is so much Texas décor throughout The Big Texan restaurant that you risk experiencing sensory overload. Additionally, the food is really bland, and a lot of Yelp reviews have noted that the meat is dry and rough.

Oh my! I've traveled through Amarillo quite a bit, but I've never stopped at The Big Texan. However, I kind of want to go there the next time I'm in the area.

Watch this video to see the 72-oz challenge Record Holder.

Every competitor gets an hour to consume 72 ounces of top sirloin along with a baked potato, salad, shrimp cocktail, and dinner roll! The entire dinner is free if they succeed in the challenge. The challenger lost $72 in this futile endeavor. Perhaps this is a tourist trap worth falling for after all, if you think you could succeed in the quest.
