Thomas Rhett Performs ‘Star of the Show’ at 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards
Thomas Rhett channeled his "Star of the Show" music video for his performance at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday night (March 5). The singer was the only country artist to perform during the ceremony.
With audience members on either side of a long red carpet, Rhett sang "Star of the Show" -- his current single -- as the cameras followed him from one end of the carpet to the other ... and back again. “Star of the Show” was inspired by Rhett's wife Lauren -- who attended the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards with her husband, showing off her baby bump -- and written shortly after their wedding; in fact, it was the first tune that Rhett ever wrote about her.
“It was a staple in our set before we had any hits,” Rhett recalls, “and fans still request it to this day.”
Directed by TK McKamy, Rhett’s “Star of the Show” video was shot in one single take … and left completely unedited. The artist calls it "unlike anything we’ve shot before," and notes that it "capture[s] that feeling I get when Lauren walks into a room, no matter where we are, and the spotlight completely turns to her."
Rhett and his wife recently announced that they are not only expecting a baby (a girl!), they’re also adopting a child from Africa. The country star began his headlining Home Team Tour on Feb. 23.
In addition to performing at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Rhett won Country Artist of the Year during the awards ceremony. He also earned a nod in the Country Song of the Year category, for his popular song “T-Shirt.”
