TikTok Tread Has Texans Rinsing Ground Meat
Here comes another silly TikTok Trend, some people are starting to rinse their cooked ground beef, which may surprise you. Some say that by doing this, the flavor is ruined. What are your thoughts? I've never rinsed my cooked ground beef, and I wouldn't stay for supper if I witnessed someone doing so.
Some Texans choose to carry on their parents' or grandparents' traditions. Some say they want to lose a little fat, but is there really any advantage to this procedure?
Some Texans assert that washing ground beef before or after cooking it is completely unnecessary and probably unwise. Author Jason Wilson of Taste of Home claims that he first came about this "hack" on TikTok several years ago, where a user posted a suggestion to drain ground beef after cooking it in order to get rid of as much grease as possible. He further stated that he still "gags" when he sees someone rinsing cooked ground beef.
Though I find that extremely disgusting, it appears like doing so would remove the ground beef's flavor-enhancing fat. Wilson argues in favor of this notion in his paper.
But why else may it be a bad idea to rinse your ground beef?
Not only does washing that liquid fat down the drain take some of the flavor out, it might also harm your pipes. This is because the liquid fat solidifies and could "gum up and potentially block your pipes," according to Wilson of Taste of Home.
It's understandable that you want to reduce the quantity of grease your family eats. If you want to properly dispose of grease, you must wait for it to cool. Here are some pointers on how to do this properly. Leaner beef or ground turkey are further choices.
