You don't think that things like this happen in Lake Charles.

Here is an update on yesterday's shooting at Ross. Thanks to Sgt. Mark Krauss of the LCPD for the details!

On July 22, 2011 at 12:07 p.m. Lake Charles Police received & responded to “Ross Dress for Less” located @ 1772 West Prien Lake Road in regards to an active shooter inside the store. Off duty Lake Charles Police Officer Clayton Fontenot & off duty Sulphur Police Officer Anthony Powell were in the shopping plaza and were the first Officers to respond to the scene. Additional on duty and off duty Lake Charles Police Officers responded to the scene to address this incident. Several customers inside “Ross Dress for Less” exited as the shooting was in progress. Once Officers entered the store they located two adult female victims which Acadian Ambulance service transported to local hospitals for treatment. One victim was transported to St Patrick’s Hospital for treatment & the other was transported to Lake Charles Memorial. One victim is listed in critical condition & the other is listed as stable. Officers learned from witnesses at the scene that the suspect left the store when all customers inside of “Ross Dress for Less” exited for their safety.

 

On July 22, 2011 @ 12:18 PM LCPD received a call from employees at Whitney Bank located at 3401 Ryan Street and learned that the suspect from the shooting at “Ross Dress for Less” was in their lobby wanting to turn herself in for the shooting. Lt. James Jones & Corporal Garrett Graham responded & arrested 26 year old black female Sharonda Alfrednette Obey; address 143 Lucille Street, Lake Charles, La. for two counts of attempted 1st Degree Murder.

The investigation is still ongoing with Sergeant Lecia McCullough as lead investigator.
