Braga Fresh, a company based in Soledad, California, has voluntarily recalled a specific lot of Marketside Broccoli Florets. The recall was first announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 31, 2024, and has now been classified as a Class I recall, the highest risk level. This classification means that consuming the product could potentially lead to severe health complications or even death.

The contamination was discovered during random store testing in Texas. So far, no illnesses have been reported. However, the FDA urges anyone who purchased the product to throw it away immediately.

The recalled broccoli was sold at Walmart locations in 20 states, including Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and several others across the country.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness that is especially dangerous for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of listeriosis can include: Fever, Muscle aches, Headache, Stiff neck, Confusion, Loss of balance, Convulsions, Diarrhea and other digestive issues, and in severe cases, miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening infections in newborns
