For many years, the Hong Kong restaurant was a staple Chinese restaurant that was located on Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles across from the Prien Lake Mall. It was known for its lunch and dinner buffets and low cost to eat there.

The restaurant was so successful that it opened up a second location in Sulphur, Louisiana on Ruth Street which is still open to this day. Well, the location in Lake Charles closed a few years back and everyone wondered what would take its place.

We didn't have to wait long because it seemed like no time before the Bluefish opened up in the same building where Hong Kong lived for years. That restaurant lasted for a little while before closing its doors too.

Then we saw the building get a makeover when social media exploded with pictures of the building and its new paint job. People were commenting on how bright blue the building was. We mean this thing may actually glow in the dark LOL. Here is what it looks like.

Pretty bright huh? So the burning question everyone in Southwest Louisiana was wondering was what the heck is this going to be? We decided to drive by there and here's what we learned.

When we drove by we saw a new sign out front and snapped a picture of it. It looks like the old Hong Kong is about to be the Blue Iguana Taco Bar and Cantina. Then we started thinking, didn't we have a Blue Iguana restaurant in Lake Charles before?

We looked it up and we found that we did in fact have a Blue Iguana Cantina that was located in downtown Lake Charles located at 723 Ryan Street in Lake Charles which is now closed. We can't confirm if the new restaurant opening on Prien Lake Road and the folks who owned the one downtown are one and the same but looks like there will be a new spot to eat in Lake Charles soon.
