The Labor Day holiday weekend is here and most of us have a three-day weekend. Most folks will have this weekend off plus a bonus day off on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

There are a ton of things going on in the Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana area like concerts, live music at bars and restaurants, and the McNeese Cowboys will have its first home football game of the year.

You may be going to a party or go tailgating and may partake in some adult beverages. Whatever you have planned, you may want to go ahead and have a plan in place to get home safely.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office has announced that they will be conducting a DWI checkpoint this Friday night, September 1st. Here is what we know According to Kayla Vincent with the CPSO,

In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish on Friday, September 1.

This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.

This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
