30 States Require Employers To Give Time Off To Go Vote

The majority of states require employers give their employees time off to go vote, but not Louisiana.

Unfortunately, Louisiana is not one of those states,. We fall in line with 20 other states that don't require employers to give you time off to go participate in your greatest civic duty, so make sure tomorrow to make the time to vote if you didn't early vote. Do it before work, during your lunch break, or after you clock off for the day.

Our neighbors over in Texas do require employers give their employees time to go vote on election day. Not only that, but they also have to give them unlimited time to vote and employees don't have to clock off.

Here's what other states close to Louisiana do:

• Alabama - employees have one hour to vote during their shifts, and it's unpaid
• Arkansas - employers must schedule employees’ work schedules on election days to give employees time to vote, and it's unpaid
• Mississippi - just like Louisiana, Mississippi has no regulations to require employers to let employees go vote during their work shifts
• Oklahoma - employees have two hours to vote during their shifts, and it's paid

I was a manager at a big retail chain for eight years before getting back into radio. I know my store was good about letting employees go vote during their shifts. They had to clock out, but we would let them leave if they wanted to go vote.
