Arrests Made in Starks Homicide
Starks, La. - At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, a body was found in an open field near the Creek Road and Bud Bennet Road in Starks. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office later identified the man as 22-year-old Dustin R. Hammons of Houston, TX, and his death was ruled a homicide. They now believe it was drug-related.
Detectives traveled to Houston to speak with family and friends of Hammons, where they got statements Hammons was last seen with Boyd "Lurch" Hagood, 45, and Ashlyn Brown, 22, both of Baytown, TX. The car was driven by Hagood, and according to witnesses, when Hammons left with Hagood and Brown, he was not seen again, said a CPSO media release.
The car used in the crime was identified using state of the art technology that showed Boyd drove from Houston towards Louisiana. The Texas Department of Public Safety, Pasadena Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Baytown PD, Houston PD, FBI, Homeland Security Enforcement, and Texas Rangers were all on hand to help locate Boyd and Brown to arrest them. They're both in a Harris County Jail on charges of aggravated assault.
Judge Robert Wyatt signed a warrant for 2nd-degree murder and set Hagood's bond at $2,500,000 and Brown's bond at $1,500,000.
