Blue Angels Coming to Lake Charles for Air Show on Saturday

Lake Charles, Louisiana - It's going to be a very busy weekend here in Southwest Louisiana. We've got one of the biggest events of the year happening this weekend in Lake Charles, as the Blue Angels will be right here in Southwest Louisiana. Thunder Over Louisiana is going to be happening this weekend at Chennault International Airport.

Chennault International Airport here in Lake Charles is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary, making the event even more special for the area. Thunder Over Louisiana will show off some of the airport's long history in Southwest Louisiana, including its economic and military importance to the region.

What Are The Blue Angels?

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are one of the most famous flight teams in the world. As the Navy’s flight demonstration squadron, their job is to show the skill, teamwork, and precision of the Navy and Marine Corps. The team performs for millions of people each year and also visits schools and hospitals. The Blue Angels were created in 1946, just after World War II, to build support for naval aviation and boost morale.

Have you ever wondered how you can become a Blue Angel? Well, as you would expect, it is not easy. Pilots must be experienced, carrier-qualified fighter pilots with at least 1,250 hours of flight time. During their shows, the pilots perform difficult moves and fly in tight formations, sometimes just feet apart, while dealing with powerful G-forces. Their incredible performances also help inspire the next generation of military pilots.

Who Else Will Be At The Show?

The biggest name in the show will be the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, but they won't be the only show in town...The Blue Angels will be joined by a mix of military, civilian, and specialty aircraft. The lineup includes the F-100F Super Sabre, Titan Aerobatic Team and Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Truck.

Thunder Over Louisiana This Weekend in Lake Charles, Featuring Blue Angels

The Thunder Over Louisiana Air Show will take place Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30. Gates will open at 9 a.m., with flying performances starting at noon. The flying portion of the show is scheduled to continue until 4 p.m., and gates will close at 5 p.m. The event will feature several hours of aerial performances and entertainment.

General admission tickets are available for $28.12. There are also several upgraded options, including Premium Box Seating, the Warhawk Club, and Premium Parking.
