Blue Bell Ice Cream is the perfect way to cool down during hot Louisiana summers. Whether you’re at a backyard barbecue, hanging out by the pool, or just looking for a sweet treat after a long day, there’s nothing like a cold scoop of your favorite flavor.
Blue Bell Ice Cream has been a staple in the South for years, and honestly, it’s hard to beat when it comes to flavor and creaminess. Some of my personal favorites are Homemade Vanilla, which is a classic for a reason, and Cookies ’n Cream, packed with big chunks of chocolate cookies. I also love their Dutch Chocolate and Strawberry, especially during the summer.

So what's all the big fuss about? Blue Bell just announced that it will stop using artificial food coloring moving forward. This won't take complete shape until 2027, though.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
By eliminating artificial food coloring, Blue Bell is also removing dyes like Red 40, Yellow 5, and Blue 1, which aren’t natural. Blue Bell is collaborating with a large organization called the International Dairy Foods Association to implement this change.
HOW WILL THIS AFFECT FAVORITE FLAVORS?
There is good news for us in the Deep South, because most of our favorites are already dye-free. For the flavors that it does affect, Blue Bell says the ice cream will still taste the same, but some flavors might look a little different as they make the switch.
Blue Bell has already released a big list of flavors that this WON'T affect.
WHY BLUE BELL IS MAKING THE SWITCH?
Today, more people want food made with natural ingredients, and some states are starting to require warning labels on products with artificial dyes. So Blue Bell is trying to stay ahead of the game and keep their ice cream as clean and simple as possible.
