There were no DWI checkpoints this weekend. You would have read a warning prior to the checkpoint. That is how they deter impaired driving. It seems most of you agree.

This poll was in direct response to a facebook comment (on a story about the results of the last DWI checkpoint.) The facebook comment said that the checkpoints were not a deterrent but instead were harassment by the Calcasieu Paris Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. You will notice that these checkpoints are always announced ahead of time. They don't just pop up and surprise us. The reason they are announced ahead is to make impaired drivers think twice about getting on our roads. The large majority (57%) of those taking our poll thought the checkpoints were a deterrent to impaired drivers. Only 23% said they felt the checkpoints were harassment.
