Chris Janson Puts His Whole Body to Work at ToC Fest 2016

If you think you only need your hands and your mouth to play the harmonica, you've never seen Chris Janson in concert. The country star turns playing the instrument into a full-body experience, and his crowd at the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival ate it up.

Janson's hour-long set on Day 3 (June 12) at ToC Fest 2016 began with riffs from "Truck Yeah" — a song he penned with LoCash's Preston Brust and Chris Lucas, as well as Danny Myrick — and a rousing harmonica solo. Throughout his show, he continued to show the fans at Hunter Mountain how "135 pounds of skinny white boy [can] play this harmonica like you never seen" (in his own words).

"Back in My Drinkin' Days," "Redneck Revival" and "Better I Don't" got the crowd moving and cheering on the chilly Sunday afternoon, but it was when Janson mixed a bit of Hank Williams Jr.'s "Country Boys Can Survive" into his own "White Trash," and when he shared the story behind his newest single, "Holdin' Her," that the crowd really began to respond.

Janson wasn't afraid to mix some classic rock tunes into his performance: When he sang LoCash's "I Love This Life" — another song penned by Brust, Lucas and Janson — he added Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" and "Born in the USA" into the track, while Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" found its way into "Buy Me a Boat." Taking a cue from Neal McCoy, who preceded him on the Ram Guts & Glory Stage, Janson even broke out a few lines of Rob Zombie's "Dragula" at the end of his show, during his set-closing version of "Truck Yeah."
