Attention Lake Charles residents. Here is some news that you will need to know. We all know how hot it has been in Southwest Louisiana and for folks who work outside all day for their job, it can be a dangerous situation.

The forecast for the next few days is highs in the mid to upper 90s with a heat index in the 110-degree mark or higher. That is brutal heat for anyone to have to work in and especially when you are doing physical labor. I mean you can just go outside and just stand there for five minutes and start sweating so imagine doing something physical.

With that being said. the City of Lake Charles is taking proactive measures to keep its workers safe during this brutal heat. They are having the staff start working earlier to beat the heat and finish earlier so that there will be minimal risk to their worker's health and wellbeing.

Katie Harrington with the city of Lake Charles gave us the information on the time changes for trash pickup in Lake Charles. She said,

Due to summer heat advisories, the City of Lake Charles Solid Waste Division is making a temporary alteration to its weekly trash pick-up schedule.

Trash items, such as furniture, bagged items, etc., should be placed curbside by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled pick up day as crews will begin running these routes earlier in the day.

Solid waste collection from garbage cans will continue on its normal schedule. Residents should place cans out the evening prior or by 7 a.m. on their regularly scheduled pick-up day.

So make plans to have your trash cans out earlier than usual so they can be picked up.
