The Memorial day holiday has past but that doesn't mean that local law enforcement is laying off the checkpoints in the area.  The State police along with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) will be conducting checkpoints and roving patrols in the Parish through Sunday.

The CPSO is planning a combination DWI checkpoint and a seatbelt checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish tomorrow, Thursday, May 28.

Kim Myers with the CPSO told us that, "This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted. The checkpoint will also target people who are not wearing their seatbelt."

The Louisiana State police will also be conducting roving patrols looking for violators not wearing their seatbelts or impared drivers.  Please buckle up when you get into your car and always designate a driver.
