Dr. Frank Welch with the Louisiana Department of Health says the numbers of cases in New Orleans are the highest in the state, but the Shreveport Bossier City area is next on the list of a spike in cases.

Dr. Welch says statewide, more than 8 percent of patients are reporting flu-like symptoms to their doctors. That number is at 10% in the local area.

It's not too late to get your flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu vaccines for anyone at least 6 months old.

Central, and Southeast Louisiana are also seeing high numbers of cases.

Doctors don't expect the season to get much worse and is much less active than last year’s, which he described as the worst he’d ever seen. Last year, 12% of patients showing up at doctors offices were suffering from the flu.
