Law enforcement officers, firefighters, and all emergency responders will be the guests of honor during an appreciation ceremony and parade to kick off Hurricane Awareness Day Saturday, September 26th, at the Lake Charles Civic Center. With the recent death of Senior Trooper Steven Vincent in the line of duty and several other law enforcement officials, the event is sure to hold even more significance for the honorees and attendees.

The day begins at 9am with a Southwest Louisiana Emergency Response Memorial Service, followed by a parade through downtown Lake Charles featuring Emergency Response Vehicles. It continues on the grounds of the Civic Center along Bord du Lac Drive which is slated to be the future site of the National Hurricane Museum & Science Center.

There will be a Kid Zone, entertainment, educational exhibits, and food and drinks available. A 5K, 10K, and one-mile fun run will also take place that day.

There is no admission and the public is, of course, encouraged to attend.
