Flooding Triggers Closure of Deer Hunting in Parts of Atchafalaya Basin
Deer hunting in portions of Deer Area 5 in the Atchafalaya Basin has been closed due to flooding, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
The Atchafalaya River has reached 15 feet at Butte La Rose, and that triggered the closure.
Deer hunting in portions of Iberville, St. Martin, St. Mary and Iberia parishes west of the East Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee, east of the West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee and south of Alligator Bayou and Bayou Sorrel are closed.
Once the river stage recedes to 14 feet at Butte La Rose, deer hunting in the area will reopen.
Wildlife and Fisheries will announce when the closure is lifted.
