Former Pitkin and LSU Tiger Garrett Edwards has officially put pen to paper after he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

During his time as an LSU Tiger, Edwards was pretty incredible when he was healthy. Edwards was phenomenal during a shortened 2023 season for the Tigers before he was sidelined with a Torn UCL. Before the injury, Edwards was in the midst of a career year while posting an ERA under 2 in over 23 innings pitched and was truly one of LSU’s best bullpen pieces.

Garrett Edwards was a member of the 2019 Class B State Championship team at Pitkin High School, the school's first title since 1999. During that magical 2019 championship season, Edwards went 11-1 with 80 strikeouts and a 0.46 ERA.

Edwards has officially announced that he will forgo his Senior Year at LSU and has signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. I have been told that Edwards, though he was drafted in the 11th round, will be receiving 5th-round money for the Rays. That is slotted at $500K. Garrett took to Facebook to announce his signing to the Rays, here's what he had to say.

I’m very thankful for the endless amount of support throughout my baseball career from my family, community, and coaches. I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a kid. As this new journey begins… I’ll continue to do the things that have got me to this point.  -Edwards
