Governor John Bel Edwards will be holding a press conference this morning concerning the state's response to rising cases, hospitalizations, and deaths from the coronavirus.

As of yesterday, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) announced 301,316 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines have been administered statewide. Of those 301,316 doses, only 40,863 people have received the required second dose.

The press conference will be held this morning at 11:00am. Gov. Edwards will most likely discuss how he and the Biden administration will be working together on stopping the spread of the virus and accelerating the distribution of vaccines across the state.

COVID-19 related hospitalizations are on a downward trend, with the LDH reporting last week that Louisiana had 2,021 patients statewide and this week, that dropped to 1,800 patients. Yesterday, the LDH reported 3,856 new cases of COVID-19 and 59 new COVID-19 related deaths.
