Country star Granger Smith has announced the death of his youngest son, River Kelly Smith. According to a post on social media, River died "following a tragic accident." He was 3 years old.

According to the Tennessean, River drowned at the Smiths' home in Texas. A representative from the singer's record label shared that information with the newspaper. Smith's social media post says that "despite the doctors' best efforts, he was unable to be revived."

Smith and his wife, Amber, also shared that they had made the decision to donate their son's organs in order to help save other children in need. "The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts," the singer added.

River is the youngest of the couple's three children. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, London (who is 7 years old) and Lincoln (who is five). In addition to Smith's post on social media about River's death, his wife also shared the news on Instagram, issuing a similar sentiment. "Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father," she writes.

Neither of River's parents have provided more details at this time. Smith canceled a show scheduled for Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday evening following the tragedy. According to Q104 and KC Live, the Hot Country Knights will still be performing, and Jerrod Neimann has been added to the bill.

The couple is asking that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, those wishing to express their sympathy make donations to the Dell Children's Medical Center in River's name. To make a donation, go here.
