I, David Kaye in the Midday, was driving to work this morning, taking my usual route of passing in front of the Lake Charles Civic Center, when I noticed Bord du Lac Drive behind the LCCC was closed off. I then remembered that today was the first day of construction for the rebuilding of the Millennium Park!

An early morning fire on Jan. 9 earlier of this year destroyed much of the Shiver Me Timbers Millennium Park in downtown Lake Charles. It was intentionally set, according to authorities.  Four fire trucks from the Lake Charles Fire Department arrived to the scene around 5:30 a.m. that Sunday morning, shortly after receiving a 911 call.  At least half of the south end of the park had burned to the ground.  Now, the steps to rebuild have begun...

Well they actually started a long time ago!  Right after the destruction of the park, ideas and groups that wanted to rebuild as soon as possible popped up all over the Lake Area, all ready to help! And now that the paper work and pencil pushing is done, the physical construction started today! And it wouldn't be exciting, if Mr. Excitement Himself, David Kaye in the Midday, didn't show up and catch all the action! And make sure you see the video at the end of the article, where you will get to meet Kenneth, the coolest grounds-keeper with a golf-kart!
