Be Prepared: Severe Weather Happening Today In South Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA: The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts heavy thunderstorms in South Louisiana today.  We have all the details.

Additionally, according to the NWS, a more powerful cold front is expected to make landfall in South Louisiana this Saturday, resulting in a storm that is more severe than the one we are seeing today.

Today, the Lake Charles NWS sent an alert on social media on the impending storm.

Zack Fradella, a Gulf weather specialist, predicts a "parade of storms" that will include three storms over the course of the next week.

The storm this weekend will bring substantially cooler temperatures to South Louisiana, according to both Fradella and the NWS.

There's also a tornado watch for all of South Louisiana today until 8:00pm:

• This Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4pm. High near 76. South wind 10 to 20 mph becoming northwest. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. North wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Thursday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 58. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. East wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Friday Night: Cloudy, with a low around 58. East wind 10 to 15 mph becoming south after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
