Calcasieu Parish School Board just announced that all schools in the district will be closed today. Most of the city is flooding and it is not safe for students or bus drivers to navigate the rising water.

CPSB Schools and Facilities Closed January 24

Due to the current road conditions and the ongoing Flash Flood Warning in effect, all CPSB schools and facilities will be closed today, January 24. We apologize for the late notice, but we do not feel it is in the best interest of our families to hold school today. We will notify families later today as to the status of school tomorrow, January 25.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has opened several sandbag stations throughout the SWLA. Residents will need to bring their shovels, but sand and bags are free of charge for those people near or on streets that flood when it rains or who live in low-line areas.

KPLC's Patrick Deaville reports more school districts are closed due to heavy rainfall and flooding. The following districts and Parishes are closed today:

Allen Parish Schools
Calcasieu Parish Schools
Jeff Davis Parish Schools
Diocese of Lake Charles
Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School
Hamilton Christian Academy
