Back-to-School Costing More for Louisiana Students This Year
As a parent of a student attending school in Louisiana, you'd be totally shocked and surprised if you read a story that suggested the costs for your child's upcoming school year were going to be less than they were last year.
Thank goodness we don't have to worry about startling you with that kind of information because, just as you suspected, it's going to cost more to outfit elementary, middle, high school, and college students for heading back to class in about a month.
The website Statista examined the anticipated back-to-school spending per household across the United States. What they found was that in 2015 the cost of going back to class actually did take a dive. Back then the average anticipated expenditure for a single student was listed at $630.36.
Since 2015 back-to-school costs have been on the increase. In 2020, we assume because of the pandemic, the cost jumped from $696.70 in 2019 to $789.49 at the beginning of the pandemic year. Costs for sending kids back to school have been on the increase since then.
For 2023 Statista suggests that parents will be investing some $890.07 into the items their student needs for back-to-school. For parents, the largest expenses will come in the form of electronics and computer-related equipment.
A majority of parents surveyed by Statista indicated they would spend the bulk of their dollars at online retailers. However, the purchase of personal items and clothing would be done at department and discount stores.
For the most part schools across Louisiana will welcome students back to class over the next three weeks. Some schools will begin with a staggered schedule and there are many school systems across the state that will begin a new four-day school week this year.
Regardless of when the first bell rings or how many days a week it rings, chances are it's going to cost you a little more for back-to-school supplies this year. If you need assistance there are many organizations across the region that offer assistance.
