The Kentucky Derby is there any other sporting event that evokes memories of the charm and grace of a simpler time? A time when women dressed like ladies and adorned themselves with beautiful and sometimes massive hats. Men sipped bourbon whiskey and used their knowledge of horsemanship to enhance their personal wealth and financial freedom.

That was how the Kentucky Derby used to be. And, in many cases, that kind of "Southern grace" mentality still prevails in the clubhouse and seated grandstands. The Kentucky Derby is not one of those places where you'd expect to see a display of public violence but such was the case this past Saturday when the 149th Run for the Roses took to the track.

But alas as it always seems to unfold in these modern times the influx of people crammed into a small space combined with what might have been copious amounts of alcohol has produced a bit of a blemish on the gentile aspect of the "Sport of Kings".

While we don't know exactly what happened to start this melee we do know that at least a few people were injured. It's unclear if or when security arrived to sort out the altercation but in the meantime there was plenty of blood, punches, curse words, and a few hats thrown around.

We do caution you that there is NSFW language in the following video posted by @reddawg77089.

What is particularly impressive or maybe disturbing is a better word, is how the lady in the yellow hat and dress gets all brave and starts throwing punches at the guy who is being held with his arms behind his back.  Some people just can't handle the pressure of wearing a good hat, can they?

And there you have it.

Usually, if you want to see men dressed in pastel suits go postal after one another you have to attend tailgating in The Grove at Ole Miss, another fine example of "gentile southern charm" until the women get to drinking, then all bets are off.

While we do not know how the Kentucky Derby dustup started or finished, we can tell you that the race was one for the ages. Mage was the winner and if you put two dollars on his nose to win you walked away with $32 and some change.

Not-So-Nice Nicknames for 10 Louisiana Towns

Nicknames are a wonderful thing if you happen to be given the right one. That's the problem with nicknames, you don't get to pick your own. So, depending on the kind of people you hang out with your pseudonym is either a flattering referral to a trait you own. Or it's a sarcastic reminder of your shortcomings. The same rules apply when it comes to the nicknames we use for the communities we love. Although, from some of these nicknames, I'm not sure I can feel the love tonight, or any night for that matter.
