Federal Government Bans Iconic Christmas Decoration in Louisiana

Since the Friday after Thanksgiving Louisiana residents and lovers of all things Christmas have been busy making their homes and businesses look splendid for the holiday season. Chances are you've seen some of the pretty lights that your neighbors have installed or maybe you've dined or shopped at a restaurant or store that has gone above and beyond in making the season feel festive.

It is these simple changes in decor that make all the difference when it comes to moving us out of our normal 11-month grind and into a bubbling holiday mood that stays with us through December.  However, there is the one holiday decoration that many of us grew up with that the Federal Government has officially disallowed for this Christmas or any Christmas in the foreseeable future.

What Iconic Christmas Decoration Has Been Banned by the Federal Government?

Let's see if you can figure it out. The announcement that this "decoration" was going to be banned took place earlier this year. But, because it wasn't Christmas when the announcement was made most of us didn't make the connection.

And no, this has nothing to do with those in government who feel that having Jesus as a part of Christmas is a bad thing. But it does have to do with how you decorate your Christmas Tree.

If you're old enough to remember when Charlie Brown's Christmas Special only aired once on regular TV then you're probably old enough to remember a certain kind of light that we decorated our Christmas Trees with. Think back to those old-school bulbs. Remember how hot they used to get? But man did they fill up the living room with a warm glow and a feeling of Christmas.

Well, you can't buy those old-school bulbs anymore because they have been banned. I am talking about the incandescent bulbs that were banned earlier this year. Look, I get why the ban was put in place. And, if you still have some of those old-school bulbs you can still use them, you just can't buy replacements for them when they burn out.

And while LED bulbs are certainly bright, energy-efficient, and easy to install, they just don't give off the warm glow that the incandescent bulbs used to provide. Maybe I am just all up in my feels and missing a Christmas where soft lights combined with soft music would make the shadows dance across the piles of presents that were waiting for us on Christmas morning.  The holidays will do that to you.
