It was not the typical ending to what was probably supposed to be a fun-filled Easter Sunday celebration in Jennings. According to Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Deputies instead of having a peaceful gathering with friends and family, that gathering ended with gunfire and a man being arrested.

According to reports, Norman Sammons of Jennings was attending an Easter Sunday gathering with his child and several other children. The activities included fun on a waterslide and there were water guns involved as well.

JDPSO says one of the children became upset after being hit with water from one of the squirt guns. The child's father, Sammons, attempted to comfort the child and bring a sense of order to the group. Witnesses suggested to JDPSO Deputies that Sammons began yelling at the children. When the kids did not respond to his "requests". He allegedly produced a 9 mm handgun and fired it into the air.

There were no reports of other arrests or injuries in connection with this incident. JDPSO is continuing their investigation.
