Suzy Heck cared for and rehabilitated injured or orphaned wildlife for many years in our community. This enormous task was filled by a woman who dedicated her life to rescuing animals that many would not give a second glance.

Heckhaven Wildlife Rehabilition Center was much more than its name. Suzy would take calls any time of the day or night in the fight to save as many lives as she could. The center had everything from raccoons, opossums, squirrels, owls, eagles and many more, all while taking in thousands of animals a year.

Accoring to Heckhaven Wildlife Rehabilition Center's website, their purpose was to release back into the wild any and all wild-born creatures. Suzy was an amazing asset to this community and to all the wildlife of Southwest Louisiana.

On April 18, this local hero passed away in her home. For anyone who knew Suzy, this came as a devastating loss. There will never be another person who has the knowledge, dedication, and love she possessed. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family. We appreciate all the years of blood, sweat, and tears. I hope you are soaring high and running wild with your babies, Suzy.

Heckhaven Wildlife Rehabilition Center operates on donations. If you would like more information you can visit their Facebook page.
