[KNGT-FM] -- This Tuesday, August 5th, is National Night Out. This is where communities all across the country will get together in a family-friendly atmosphere and celebrate. National Night Out promotes the partnership between the police and the community to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live.

The purpose of the National Night Out is to strengthen relationships between residents and law enforcement, raise awareness of crime prevention programs, promote neighborhood unity and public safety, encourage community-police cooperation, and create visibility for anti-crime efforts.

In Southwest Louisiana, there are several communities participating in National Night, namely two of the biggest cities in Calcasieu Parish, Lake Charles and Sulphur. Both cities have a big night planned on Tuesday, August 5th, in each town.

In Lake Charles, Louisiana, National Night Out will take place at the Lake Charles Event Center located at 900 Lakeshore Drive. This is a free community event sponsored by the Lake Charles Police Department. There will be a Jambalaya cook-off, classic car show, static displays, hands-on activities, community safety information, and giveaways.  It will take place from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

In Sulphur, Louisiana, National Night Out will take place at the West Cal Arena on Tuesday night, August 5th, 2025. The Sulphur Police Department, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, Ward 4 Marshals Office, Vinton Police, DeQuincy Police, and Westlake Police will all be on hand. They will also have static displays, hands-on activities, community safety information, and giveaways.

Both events are free to attend and open to all ages. Make sure to go out and enjoy seeing police vehicles, talk with the officers, and learn the things these brave men and women do each day to keep us safe in our parish. We thank them for their service.
