So you are sitting at home having dinner and the phone rings. The person calling says they are from the Louisiana State Police or another law enforcement agency. They inform you that they have a warrant for your arrest. That's how this scam begins.

People are falling for the scam in part because the caller address the victim by their name and phone number. They tell the victim that they must call another number and make payment arrangements to avoid arrest or imprisonment.

Troopers want the public to know that they never ask for payment or negotiate payment in lieu of arrest over the phone. They also urge the public to never give out any personal information over the phone. If you are suspicious about a call you can report the call to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations at 225-925-1739.
