Louisiana To Stay In Modified Phase Two

Governor John Bel Edwards held a coronavirus press conference yesterday and announced Louisiana will stay in modified Phase Two for the next 21 days.

Edwards had this to say:

While we still have a long way to go to put this pandemic behind us, it's only going to happen once enough of us get the vaccine.

During the press conference, he went on to say more people have been vaccinated than have contracted the virus in Louisiana. The state, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center have teamed up to start the first large-scale community vaccination site in Louisiana. The site will vaccinate 7,000 residents a week once they've received enough doses. To get vaccinated, you have to schedule an appointment, as no walk-ins are allowed. Also, you have to meet the current requirements to get vaccinated, including anyone age 65 and older.

Governor Edwards and other state law makers were able to get vaccinated at the clinic because access to the vaccines have now been expanded to officials who are overseeing the COVID-19 response in their states.

Currently, there is no word when the facility will begin the weekly large-scale vaccinations. You can schedule your appointment to be vaccinated at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center here.
