Maddie & Tae’s Maddie Marlow Posts Anti-Bullying Rant After 2016 Election
The 2016 presidential election has brought out the worst in some people, mainly online in the form of mean-spirited and sometimes racist comments. This backlash has been noticed by all Americans, and some country artists — like Maddie Marlow of Maddie & Tae — have had enough.
In a lengthy Instagram post written on Thursday morning (Nov. 10), Marlow made her opinion heard on how hurtful some of these cyber bullies are and how one should rethink their political stance if they can't tolerate others' different views.
"If your political views define who you are as a human and you can't stand to have friends that have different views than you, than you need to reevaluate my friend," she writes.
Marlow's complete rant reads as follows:
"I've probably unfriended about 50 people I actually liked as human beings in the past couple weeks because of the election. Did you know that everyone is allowed to think differently? And guess what? Just because someone has a different political view or opinion than you DOESN'T MAKE THEM A BAD PERSON. Maybe Trump was your vote or maybe he wasn't. Either way it's no excuse to be an asshole. People complained about how both candidates were bullies in their own ways but YOU are the bully by bashing people on our social media for thinking differently than you. GOD FORBID you experience diversity here on Earth. I know it's a sensitive subject but how about making the change starting with ourselves and be a good human being. Would Jesus be bashing people for thinking differently than you even if YOU think it's wrong? Nope. He would be loving on EVERYONE. It is not our job as Christians to try to tell people they are wrong for what they believe (no matter how wacky it may be). It's our job as followers of Christ to LOVE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS even if they are different than us! God will decide what's right or wrong, NOT US. If your political views define who you are as a human and you can't stand to have friends that have different views than you, than you need to reevaluate my friend."
The results of the election were revealed late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning (Nov. 9). Craig Morgan was also quick to react following the news that Donald Trump has been named President-Elect, saying, "I am proud to be from a nation where the people’s vote matters."
"There have been numerous people say that if Donald Trump was elected they would leave this nation," he added, taking aim at those unhappy with the results. "If you choose not to, I completely understand as it is the greatest country in the world. Should you choose to stand by your word and leave, don’t let the door hit you in the a-- on the way out."
