The McNeese Cowboys basketball team made history for the program yesterday by upsetting the 5th--seed Clemson Tigers in the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament. This was the first win for the basketball program in the March Madness tournament in school history.

Southwest Louisiana stretched to a halt yesterday when the Cowboys took the court for their first round game. There were videos and posts all over social media with watch parties and we even saw videos of people at work watching the game.

The Pokes held Clemson to an eye-popping 13 points in the first half of yesterday's game and built a 22-point lead at one time. In the second half, the game became a lot closer before the Cowboys ultimately prevailed winning the game 69-67 to advance to round two of the tournament.

The Cowboy's opponent tomorrow will be the Purdue Boilermakers who are the 4th seed in the tournament. They won their first round game beating High Point 75-63 to advance to the second round.

Now the Pokes get ready to take on Purdue Saturday in Providence, Rhode Island.  The second-round game time has been announced and for the Cowboys, it will be an early game.

McNeese and Purdue will tip off at 11:10 am Central time (Our Time) and the game will be televised nationally on CBS. You can also stream the game on the CBS sports app. The pokes will be looking to advance to the sweet sixteen with a victory.

We are proud of the team and the coaches and we are ready to go dancing for the second time tomorrow. Let's Geaux pokes!
