October- The Month To Celebrate Just About Everything!
Welcome to October!
Typically, October brings to mind thoughts of Halloween, Breast Cancer Awareness, and the colors of fall. But did you know there are at least 113 other causes and celebrations commemorated during the month of October? That's not to mention all the daily observations.
Here are a few of my favorites:
- 1
Adopt A Shelter Dog Month
I have adopted a few shelter dogs over the years. They were wonderful companions, and we were fortunate to have them as part of our family. Consider these four-legged fur babies before calling a breeder. They need loving homes.
- 2
National Depression Education & Awareness Month
There's still a stigma attached to the diagnosis of depression, and many adults who are suffering do not receive treatment. The public found out after his death that Robin Williams suffered from it. There are effective treatments available, and it's important to talk to your doctor about it. October 11 is National Depression Screening Day, too.
- 3
National Cookie Month
I have no idea why it's celebrated in October, but why not? By the way, my favorite cookies to bake are oatmeal with pecans. Hold the raisins.
- 4
National Pizza Month
Interestingly enough, the celebration was not started by a pizza chain. Rather, a magazine dedicated to the pie decided it needed a whole month to itself. My favorite is either loaded with a variety of meat or everything, hold the anchovy and mushrooms.
