Ahoy, mateys! Join T.S. Cooley Elementary this week at their annual 'Bookaneer' Scholastic Book Fair, where it's all things pirate, and books are the treasure. Each year, the school holds a book fair to motivate and encourage young people to read. In the theme of things, the Cooley library transformed into a giant ship, setting course to broaden imaginations on the high sea of books. The 'Bookaneer' Scholastic Book Fair takes place all week, from 8am to 2pm, and the entire community is invited.

The grand opening took place with family and friends on Sunday, October 30, and the soiree included a play, storybook costume contest, and more. The Contraband Days Buccaneers even docked their vessel to plunder the vast booty of books. They also passed out a few goodies from their treasure chest! KPLCTV was on hand to capture the day's events. Watch them explain how the T.S. Cooley Tigers are using the power of books, to help flood victims in Baton Rouge below.

There's more than just books to see! Stop by and feast your eyes on the delightful artwork created by the T.S. Cooley Tigers. Enjoy the fun decorations and admire this year's pirate-themed pumpkins from Cooley's annual Pumpkin Contest. The awesome pumpkins were done by the students, and are on display for all to see throughout the book fair.

Best of all, this year's book fair has an added cause. T.S. Cooley Elementary School is paying it forward by donating books to Tanglewood Elementary School in Baton Rouge. The school was destroyed and lost everything in the August flood that ravaged most of East and Southeast Louisiana. The library, which once housed thousands of books, is now empty. However, the Cooley Tigers are doing their part to help.

You can be a part of it, matey! Any hardback book purchased during the book fair this week will go toward replenishing the Tanglewood's flooded library. In a couple of weeks, T.S. Cooley's Librarian (Mrs. Lanier) and Principal (Mrs. Alcot) will deliver the donated books to Tanglewood Elementary School in person. So lets go SWLA, and lets buy some books for a great cause! The 'Bookaneer' Scholastic Book Fair will be open until Friday. Shopping hours are every day, from 8am to 2pm.
