Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - One of the most anticipated basketball games of the fall is coming to Southwest Louisiana as LSU and McNeese prepare to square off in a preseason exhibition that already has fans buzzing. The matchup, dubbed the "Bill vs. Will Showdown," is scheduled for October 8, 2026, at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles.

The game marks an emotional return for LSU head coach Will Wade, who revitalized the McNeese basketball program during his two seasons in Lake Charles. After taking over a program that had struggled for years, Wade quickly transformed the Cowboys into one of the nation's biggest success stories.

McNeese captured consecutive Southland Conference regular-season titles, reached the NCAA Tournament, and became a nationally recognized mid-major program under his leadership.

Wade then left McNeese and coached at NC State for a season before accepting the opportunity to return to LSU, where he previously coached from 2017 to 2022. His return to Baton Rouge brought him back to one of the SEC's premier basketball jobs, but his impact on McNeese continues to be felt.

Leading the Cowboys now is Bill Armstrong, who has close ties to Wade. Armstrong served on Wade's coaching staff before taking over the McNeese program, making this exhibition more than just a tune-up for the regular season.
