LCPD detectives investigated a shooting on Saturday night, July 7, in the 4400 block of 5th Avenue. The shooting resulted in the death of 19-year-old Carlos Ross Jr. It was later ruled a homicide.

Police Chief Don Dixson tells KPLC, a dispute over a "small amount of marijuana" lead to the death of Ross.

Chief Dixon announced Monday that Joey Duran Whitted, 34, was arrested on Sunday in Baton Rouge. He was transported back to Calcasieu Parish and charged with first-degree murder. His bond is $1 million.
