ALERT! Texans, These Passwords May Put You at Risk
If you live in Texas and have an easy password, it’s time to change it—right away! Experts are warning Texans to stop using weak passwords before hackers take advantage.
Think about how many passwords you use every day. You probably have one for your email, bank account, work logins, streaming services, and even random websites you barely visit. Keeping up with them all is exhausting, especially when some sites force you to make passwords with 18 characters, uppercase letters, symbols, and what feels like ancient symbols.
Even though it’s annoying, there’s a good reason why companies require strong passwords. A new study reveals how shockingly easy it is for hackers to break into accounts with weak passwords. According to NordPass, a product of NordVPN, 17 of the world's 20 most common passwords can be cracked in under one second. That means if you’re using one of these, your personal info could be stolen instantly. Once hackers get in, your data could end up on the dark web, where criminals buy and sell stolen information fast.
Sadly, millions of people—including many in Texas—are still using extremely weak passwords. Here are some of the most commonly hacked passwords:
