We just heard the heartbreaking news that Cajun music legend and original singer of "The Back Door" D.L. Menard has passed away at the age of 85.

Everyone who knows anything about Cajun music knows the song "The Back Door".  It is the most played Cajun song ever played and covered by any and every Cajun and Zydeco band.

"The Back Door" or in French is "La Porte En Arrière" when released in 1962 sold over 500,000 copies in that year alone.

Doris Leon (D.L) Menard was born in Erath, Louisiana in 1932.  His idol was legendary country singer Hank Williams who he met in 1951 right before Williams death.

Menard was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1993 for Best Traditional Folk Album.  In 2009, he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.

And then again in 2010, D.L. Menard was nominated once again for a Grammy award for the album "Happy Go Lucky" in the Best Cajun and Zydeco Album category.

D.L. Passed away at the age of 85.  When more details are available we will pass them along to you!
