The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) will participate in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign beginning today, Monday, May 20, thru Sunday, June 2, as they continue their efforts to "save lives through awareness of increased seatbelt use", said a media release.

“According to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half (47%) of the passengers killed in crashes in 2017 were unrestrained. Research shows in 2017 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives and could have saved an additional 2,549 people if they had been wearing seat belts. Those facts highlight the need for increased enforcement and awareness of seat belt use.” said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony

This “Click It or Ticket” campaign begins before one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, the Memorial Day weekend. Expect an increase in officer presence on the roads of Calcasieu Parish as well as checkpoints to catch any vehicle occupant who isn't wearing a seatbelt.

CPSO will conduct a seatbelt checkpoint on Saturday, May, 25, at an undisclosed location in the parish.

This campaign is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
