Dolly Parton Responds to 2017 Grammy Awards Win: ‘Oh My Lord’
Dolly Parton wasn't able to attend the 2017 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 12) in Los Angeles, but that didn't stop the country icon from bringing home her eighth Grammys trophy. Parton won the award for Best Country Duo / Group Performance, for her collaborative remake of "Jolene" with a cappella group Pentatonix.
"Oh my Lord, I am so excited to have won the Grammy with Pentatonix on my old song "Jolene,"" Parton says in a press release. "I am so happy and am so very proud of Pentatonix. The song is one of my favorites. Thanks to the Grammys, but most importantly, thanks to all the fans. I love you all."
Parton and Pentatonix's award-winning collaboration happened when Cracker Barrel Old Country Store brought the two acts together to put a new spin on Parton's 1973 hit. The well-known restaurant has partnered with Parton since her 2009 Backwoods Barbie Collector's Edition project.
“Cracker Barrel is thrilled to have brought these two extraordinary talents together, Dolly Parton and Pentatonix, as part of our Spotlight Music Program for the exclusive collaboration of “Jolene,"" says Cracker Barrel Vice President of Marketing Don Hoffman. "We share in the celebration of their Grammy Awards win, as they are both a special part of the Cracker Barrel family."
"Jolene" earned Parton two Grammys nominations, in 1975 and 1976, both for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female, but her win in 2017 is the song's first Grammys victory. Parton previously won in the Best Duo / Group Performance category (then Best Country Vocal Performance By a Duo or Group) for her 1988 collaboration with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, Trio. Her 2017 Best Country Duo / Group Performance nod was Parton's 48th Grammys nomination; their win was Pentatonix's third.
Parton recently wrapped up her Pure & Simple Tour, in November, and has spent much of the past few months helping to support for her hometown of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., after it and surrounding areas were affected by devastating wildfires.
