Former New Orleans Saints superstar, Glenn Foster Jr., reportedly died of unexplained causes on Monday at a medical facility in Northport, Alabama according to Senior Trooper Reginal King of the Alabama Law Enforcement. He was only 31-years old. NOLA.com is reporting the former NFL star was allegedly arrested Saturday morning and charged with counts of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and attempting to elude police. There are conflicting accounts on what led to his arrest, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. According to news reports the day after his initial arrest, Foster was rebooked on counts of simple assault and robbery.

Glenn Foster Jr., a Chicago native attended the University of Illinois before signing with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He would go on to play for New Orleans for two seasons as a defensive end until an injury ended his career. Prior to being waved by New Orleans in 2015, Foster recorded eight tackles and three sacks in the NFL. Since his retirement Foster went into business with his wife and opened high-end granite counter stores in New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.

The Daily Beast reports the former pro-baller was allegedly denied medical care while in the custody of Pickens County Deputies. There is a whirlwind surrounding his arrest and death, even the Pickens County police chief is asking questions. Court records accused Foster of assaulting an inmate “with the intent to prevent a sheriff’s deputy and a correctional officer from performing a lawful duty.”

The Gordo police chief from 1987-2019, was appointed sheriff by Gov. Kay Ivey about a month before a mentally ill Black man Wallace Wilder was shot to death in his apartment. A neighbor called Gordo Police to do a “wellness check” on Wallace and ended up killing the 62-year old. Hall replaced previous longtime Pickens County Sheriff David Abston, who was indicted for fraud and sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty. Wallace Wilder's estate filed a federal lawsuit against Pickens County Sheriff Todd Hall, who was involved in the shooting.

As for the death of former NFL star Glenn Foster Jr. all findings surrounding the investigation will be turned over to the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office. We too would like to send our deepest and most sincere condolences to his mother, wife and kids.
